Offered for the first time in 2020, ‘The Gwen Ryan Educational Award for Migrant-refugee Women’ is a specific purpose award for $3000 for a migrant or refugee woman who is undertaking education at tertiary level leading to professional development or employment. She must have become a permanent resident of NZ within the last 5 years.
The award is a one off grant to help with study and/or living expenses during study. The money may be used for tuition costs in pursuit of an approved course of study, experiential development, transport costs, costs associated with disabilities, childcare or other study-related expenses. It may be used in combination with funding from other sources.
To apply for the Gwen Ryan Educational Award for Migrant-refugee Women you must meet all the following eligibility criteria:
The applicant is a woman, who:
Is enrolled in an NZ approved tertiary qualification
Is a migrant or refugee and lives in New Zealand
Has become a permanent resident of New Zealand within the last 5 years
Has not previously received an NHWT: HK Award at the proposed level of study
When selecting awardees, the selection panel will consider the following:
Academic achievements and career plans
Financial and personal circumstances
Life story
Proposed use of the award
Community involvement
