Degree Awards sponsored by Toi Ohomai

Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology raise funds annually to sponsor awards through New Horizons Women Trust: Hine Kahukura.

Purpose of the awards

There are four awards of $3,000 for women from across the Bay of Plenty and South Waikato regions who are studying at degree level or above (NZCA Level 7 and above). Applicants for these awards must have completed at least one full year (2 Semesters) of the degree study programme.

The awards are restricted to women studying at Toi Ohomai or Waikato University. Preference will be given to applicants living in the Bay of Plenty or South Waikato.

The awards are a one off grant to help with study and/or living expenses during study. The money may be used for tuition costs in pursuit of an approved course of study, experiential development, transport costs, costs associated with disabilities, childcare or other study and/or living expenses. They may be used in combination with funding from other sources.

Eligibility criteria

The applicant is a woman, who: 

  • Is studying at Toi Ohomai or Waikato University

  • Does not already have a tertiary qualification at the proposed level of study

  • Is a New Zealand citizen or holds a resident class visa, and lives in New Zealand

  • Has not previously received a NHWT:HK Award at this level of study

Preference will be given to applicants living in the Bay of Plenty or South Waikato.

When selecting awardees, the selection panel considers the following:

  • Financial circumstances

  • Use of funds

  • Personal circumstances

  • Academic achievements

  • Evidence of ability as a role model

  • Experience
